You will fulfill your role as the \u2018safety valve.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Safety valve.<br>That\u2019s the role that\u2019s meant to break before everyone else.<br>The rainwater hose splits into three, so the water flows evenly to all of us.<br>On normal rainy days, there\u2019s no problem.<br>But on days of heavy rain, my stomach\u2014the safety valve\u2014reaches its limit before the others.<br>That way, only the other two survive.<br>But that means\u2026<br>My role is to be the one who doesn\u2019t survive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDo you understand?!\u201d<br>\u201cY-yes. Are you okay?!&#8221;<br>Serina rushed over to us right away.<br>&#8220;<em>Cough\u2026 cough\u2026<\/em> I\u2019m\u2026 I\u2019ll manage, but Rina is\u2026&#8221;<br>Emma looked at me, worry written all over her face.<br>&#8220;\u2026uh\u2026 <em>hic<\/em>\u2026&#8221;<br>I couldn\u2019t speak; tears just kept streaming down my cheeks.<br>My body wouldn\u2019t stop trembling.<br>Master said there would be heavy rain today.<br>Maybe today will be the end for me.<br>I imagine my skin stretching thin, my stomach tearing apart from the inside\u2014something bursting with a wet crunch deep in my belly, everything spilling out and spreading across the floor.<br>Unbearable pain that never ends, so strong I can\u2019t even breathe, and then\u2026<br>Scenes like that keep spinning through my mind until I feel like I might break.<br>I\u2019m scared. I don\u2019t know what to do\u2026 Why do I have to be given a role like this?<br>&#8220;\u2026We\u2019ll take as much as we can, Emma and I both.
